Thursday, Ellen Kushner, one of my favorite writers, tweeted that she was at the Cafe du Monde, and I totally would have driven down there just to fangirl on her if I had seen it in time. But I didn't. I did tweet to tell her so, though, and she tweeted back that she lives to be admired, and we'd have to catch each other next time.

I was, erm, all a-twitter over that. :) Silly, I guess, but there you go. I'd probably have pestered her by saying how badly I want her to write more books, and that wouldn't have been good. One should not call one's favorite author a slacker, especially when one's pot is much blacker than said author's kettle. Ah well. ;)

I had to go to my writing group meeting anyway. It was supposed to be a write-in, but we had a new member and ended up talking about everything and getting to know him (and him us). It was crazy and wonderful, one of those group conversations that is so awesome you forget about time and food and generally everything else. I also found out that my co-organizer (while Mer is away taking care of her mom who has cancer) is a big Whovian and Torchwood lover, too. The new guy is an artist and comic book/general geek as well, so we created a geek vortex and generally spun out of conversational control.

It was AWESOME. The geek mind-meld time warp was in full effect. It was six thirty, and then a minute later it was ELEVEN. Wow.

My writing-group curse may be broken. I think I need this sense of community at least as much as I want critique. Plus I think they might be willing to read and give feedback when I'm ready, so I may be able to get both.

In GC news, today I posted a fun bit for the Geek Video of the Week involving Roger Ebert and Jon Stewart discussing the relative merits of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' weapons. It is a thing of beauty which I had to share.

Srsly, the SHERLOCK fandom is booming. There are more fanvids every day. Here's a short but fun one to Adam Lambert's STRUT:

I could eat Cuthbert Bandersnatch* with a spoon.

Oh, here's a funny one:

*I know his real name, but I like messing it up. Low-hanging fruit, you know, because I'm shameless.

My article on Dollhouse has been linked on Wedonesque ( http://whedonesque.com/comments/22886 )

*Breathes*

I posted a link to a Dollhouse community on LJ, and somehow it got around. (For those of you who don't know, Whedonesque is a Joss Whedon fan community site with forums and stuff.) The thread there has some nice comments, as does the [livejournal.com profile] dollhouse_tv post referencing it.

The article has over 2,400 hits, and more comments on it than anything I've ever posted there before. It has also earned the site $0.17 so far, which (thanks to my somewhat preposterous business model) is actually kind of a lot.

People really seem to identify with it, and/or are engaged enough by it bother commenting.

This is immensely gratifying.

I am gobsmacked.

Guess what I got in the mail today!?!

Well, yes. It was a package, but more specifically a package from [livejournal.com profile] micehell. Full of PRETTIES!!! *flail*

If I started watching right now, and didn't eat until I'd seen it all, I would die in front of my computer.** I'd die happy, tho. I'm going to be mainlining Japanese and Korean dramas for weeks!! Starting right-

Oh, crap. Tonight is book club night. *gnashes teeth* (I love, LOVE my book club and all, but this week our local author is a sweet lady who self-published inspirational stories, which is fine, but I haven't read it yet AND the author will likely be there. I can't skip it because the author is a friend of the group leader and she's been sick and no one had RSVP'd and she was sad... ) Okay so not that bad. But I'd rather be oogling Lee Jun Ki expanding my intellectual horizons through Korean Drama.

Which is to say, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! You are the best!

*grovels*

(I have begun work on the item. Estimated Date of Delivery: before 2010.)

Actually, my squee may be slightly subdued by the fact that my throat is scratchy and I got all weepy over nothing (well, close to it) yesterday, leading me to believe I'm coming down with something. It always starts like this for me - I get emo just before the fever/aches start. *sigh*

In any case, the website has been flooded with wonderful articles by my regular contributors, though this morning's offering isn't one of them. I'm proud to announce our first-ever Guest Blogger, the awesome Jennie Rigg (aka [personal profile] miss_s_b )!!! I'm positively stoked to have a top blogger such as herself slumming with us. *g*

So please go check out Sarah-Jane Smith: Feminist Icon for Kids. Show her some love, and maybe we can coax her back sometime!

One cool thing about the off-kilterness of being slightly ill is that I slip a bit easier between reality and my story when I'm feverish. The details of my character's lives become so vivid I have to take notes - textures, sensory stuff as well as and things they did as children. So the writing is going well enough, though I imagine there will be plenty of clean-up editing to do later.

The downside is I totally spaced on an article I promised someone for yesterday, I still haven't paid the bills, and my eldest needs math help and I cannot remember squat. Ah, well, I shall muddle through. :)

I've been writing enough to aggravate my carpel tunnel syndrome (a long-lasting gift from my years of Civil servitude Service). I will put that on the "good things" side of the ledger, because I can't bring myself to regret it.

In any case, I have a new article up at GC, Dr. Horrible Hits the Telly at Last. I'm a bit confused as to how something that never aired on TV won an Emmy, but I'll take it. ;)

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] micehell I'm totally immersed in Iljimae, a dorama starring one Lee Jun Ki. Mr. Lee is the pretty star of a movie she shared with us over the summer called The King and his Clown, about a troupe of actors that gets enmeshed with a loony despotic king (partly because he(the king) falls hard for the pretty boy who plays all the female parts-- yeah, you guessed it -- played by Mr. Lee). *shrug* I likes 'em pretty:

Photobucket

He has such a lovely smile! In Iljimae (so far), he's getting beaten up and crying a lot, but hiding it from everyone, which also makes me strangely happy. It's not true of everyone (and certainly not true in RL, as far as I know), but some guys are simply more attractive to me when they're suffering. This is my cross to bear. ;) There's just something profoundly sexy about a man who stoically bears up under the unbearable.

So, okay. I'm a perv. Sue me. Nyah!

[livejournal.com profile] micehell -- You're worse than a crack dealer. (j/k) I've been forced to save parts of Iljimae for when I meet my word count goals or what have you. Otherwise I would get nothing done for weeks.

So, my dears [livejournal.com profile] narniadear and [livejournal.com profile] abrynne went all over LJ pimping their Favorite Geek Boys to various fan communities yesterday.

Some of my faves fell down in the rankings, so my inner wacky fangirl kicked in and I did likewise.

Long story short GeekaChicas exploded. Not that the servers crashed or anything, but tons of people came to vote, some hung around, and some registered. :)

Then I posted [livejournal.com profile] abrynne's review of the TV show Life (called Life in an Insecure Universe ) and somehow managed to break the front page. Just a little. The poll went down to the bottom, below the older articles.

I finally figured out how to fix it, but not before my Beloved deleted and reloaded the template. He didn't seem to mind that it was a wasted effort, and was proud of me for fixing it on my own. :)

In any case, I think our petulant grab for votes for our favorite Geek Boy may have resulted in the site actually connecting with several fandoms (of which we are unabashed members).

This is fun. :)

The erotica anthology in which "Intervention" will appear in some form or other now has a stub entry on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Taken-By-Force/dp/1934187410

*squee* It has a date on it of December 30, 2008, but I suppose that could change. No cover or anything, just a stub.

It's probably worth mentioning that, while I have, in fact, experienced a certain amount of mixed feelings today, none of it was in any way related to erotica, or sexuality. ;D Fact is, I'm pretty good at writing smut, and I'm cool with that.

In other smut news, the next episode of HMOWK is more than half finished. I am experiencing a certain amount of ennui, but I think most of that is related to the family's uncertain future. (I sorely miss my Beloved. This is the longest we've been separated, maybe ever.) I'm getting close to being finished with it. Not sure what comes next.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] micehell I am now addicted to a TV show that aired in the US on Lifetime. *headdesk* Television sucks, in general, and Lifetime sucks ass. I think that is even in their promotional materials. "Lifetime: We Suck Ass-- For Women." The show is called "Blood Ties" and it's based on the series of books by Tanya Huff-- which I haven't read because I really don't do the vampire thing. I mean, it's been done a lot. Obviously people go for it. Usually NOT people who are me.

But, all they had to do was tie up a pretty boy, and I was lost. I am a pathetically simple creature.

Pictorial evidence below the cut. I just love the make-believe medieval torture. I canna help it. )

[livejournal.com profile] micehell has also been grabbing the new Torchwood out of the evilness of her heart.

Now, my best friend and I talked recently, and she has started watching Torchwood. She said she could see the potential, but it came off a tad uneven in execution. I had to agree, and I told her most of the first series was just like that. I said it was too bad that American shows with promise are not given a chance to work out their kinks-- they just get canned.

Of course, Torchwood has plenty of kinks to knock out. *snort*

********ALL Torchwood PICTURES ARE SPOILER/MAN-SNOG FREE********

The second season seems to be starting off much tighter. I only saw the first ten minutes or so, but boy oh boy did it make me happy. First you have
John Barrowman ) as Captain Jack Harkness, which is pretty good even if the writing was bad, which it didn't seem to be.

Then you have James Marsters ) coming in being dashing and appealingly evil.

They're like the peanut butter and Nutella of nummy male deliciousness.
Non-spoilery picture )

When I heard that James Marsters was going to be a recurring person this series, I did not even consider the potential hotness beyond Mr. Marsters himself, just being hot. Clearly, I was not thinking big enough. I shall endeavor to correct that error. It never hurts to tell the Universe what you want.
