... but getting closer. :)

I've been a bad webmistress and have neglected my pimping duties. So here's a run down of the recent stuff up on GeekaChicas.

First up, there's Kitchen Jedi's awesome review of Dorkness Rising. Looks like a fun rental, if it's half as amusing as the review.

Then there was Pearce's God Bless Shatnerday featuring the now somewhat infamous Star Trek OS video of Ke$ha's Tik Tok. It was up on Saturday, which gives you a hint how far behind I am on this stuff. Bad Wemistress, no biscuit.

Then, we have a book review from Alpha Lyra, Black Blade Blues - lesbian blacksmith, anyone?. I always enjoy Alpha Lyra's book reviews, even when she's not hot for the book, because she always gives her reasons and is a critic quite capable of considering the role taste plays in whether or not she likes a book.

Then we have a fun Geek Parenting article by Kitchen Jedi, Character Creation Is Not For The Faint at Heart. None of my spawn has done the non-video RPG thing yet, but it will be interesting to see what happens when they do.

Nightsky's I'm Sailing Away touches on the recent teen sailor rescue and the trend of parents pushing kids into stunts, possibly for the media coverage, as well as teh trend to do something just so you can write a book about it later. It's certainly some food for thought.

Last but not least, there is my no spoiler review of the new Futurama episodes airing tonight, Futurama: Good News, Everyone!

Whew! That was a lot of articles. Remind me not to get so far behind on my duties again.

It's going to be a weird couple of weeks for me (lots of standardized achievement tests for the boys - stressful for me because *I've* been their teacher this year, see - plus doctor visits and lots of stuff like that), so please bear with me. :)

Yesterday afternoon/last night, I spent several hours with the boys at a laser tag place (they dominated -- Big Boy is quite the strategist, see -- They only lost twice out of ten games, and that was when the teams were divided with 15 on one side and four on my boys' side. I suspect that was comeuppance, as gangly 15 year olds do NOT cotton to being out-smarted by 12 and unders) and I posted A Geeky Dream Come True to GC, with the following awesome video (first brought to my attention by [livejournal.com profile] narniadear ) :

That makes me happy. :)

This morning, we have a new offering from Alpha Lyra, who has become something of a WoW reporter for GC among other things. Blizzard's Great Social Experiment:Dungeon Finder is a look at the way new software has changed game culture in WoW, and I find it fascinating.

Hope you all have a lovely day!

Had friends over for BIL's birthday yesterday. I made a cake, and it was not at all lop-sided. It was quite tasty, too. We played Rock Band for the first time since just before Christmas. I sang Skullcrusher Mountain, and ended up with a 95% rating even though I laughed pretty much all the way through the half-pony, half-monkey monster verse. That song LAYS me.

The coolest bit about having folks over was that W. (BIL's on/off romantic interest) came over, and she ROCKS. She's weird and funny and gorgeous and clever in the best possible ways. Our best buds B and L were there, too, and despite feeling a bit old and fat and sickly, I had a great time. I think BIL had a good time, too, but he's hard to read. I've gotten to where I can tell if he's ecstatic or boiling with rage, but the various stops between the two are still a tad subtle. Those of you who know him know that isn't an exaggeration. He is very hard to read.

But I think he had a good birthday. ;)

I also did a lot of the groundwork for the website I'm trying to build. It's a lot of work to be just for fun, but it will also be a cool place to cross-promote my friends' work/websites, and I'm learning a LOT.

Check out [livejournal.com profile] abrynne's Icon post - many icons of the lovely men of the Discovery Channel. *grin* The gal'ss got taste!

Woke up with the idea of drawing my 20-year-old self being eaten by werewolf, in loving memory of my best friend from high school, Ronnie Ellis. I didn't get word of his funeral in time to show up in a red dress, but I think maybe the drawing would be a way to honor him as well. He made Z-list horror flicks until he was sidelined by cancer of the kidney. Beat the cancer, but the radiation and stuff weakened his heart and he never really recovered. I've never really drawn horror, so it would be a challenge as well as a tip of the hat to his love of spatter-gore (which I never shared, or even understood, really). I'm not sure if I can do it, but I woke up this morning wanting to try.

This being sick thing has played heck with my complexion. It's like being fourteen again.

I've managed to keep up with the dishes, though. The rest of teh house is kind of a mess, but the dishes are clean. They boys are cleaning up after themselves before they go back to school on Tuesday, though.

I am sooo ready for them to go back to school, it isn't even funny.

This song makes me insanely happy (contains spoilers for the Portal video game):

When we went over to Ben and Lindsay's this weekend, I found out they have it on Rock Band. *geekgasm* I've never even played Portal. Hee!

"And the Science gets done, and you make a neat gun..." Hahahahahahahahah-snort-hahahahaha!
