Yesterday was easily one of my best birthdays ever, despite being pretty normal in most respcts.

The hubby made me a special smoothie for breakfast, and the kids were most solicitous. I think this may have been my first birthday ever on Facebook, because WOW. Folks popped up with felicitations all over there.

An old friend from college even posted this for me:

That cracked me up, so much. This guy is one of two of my Beloved's friends from college who was also a full-fledged friend of mine as well. (Oh, the stories I could tell on him!) Anyway, that was a laugh.

Then there was LJ, which also seemed to be over-flowing with birthday wishes (and one super-cool virtual gift from the incomparable [livejournal.com profile] lotusice WOOT!)

Add to that phone calls from my buddies Teresa, Ben, [livejournal.com profile] hominysnark, my sister and a singing birthday message from my Papa and I just felt swathed in love from head to toe. My sons sang and danced , followed by their famous amoeba hug (it absorbs all in its path)They even refused to let me do anything around the house. They swept and made their own food and snuggled with me to watch some X-Files during the usual afternoon thunderstorms (got to keep up their geek education).

Then I got to wear one of my new sun dresses to Crazy Johnny's Steakhouse, a restaurant I requested for my birthday dinner, even though I hadn't eaten there before. The menu is limited, but they get the same cuts of meat as Brennan's at a much more reasonable price. Plus it was noisy and dress-code-less, so the boys could enjoy their meal without an etiquette refresher. The food was SO GOOD and carried no sticker shock.

So. Much. Fun.

I don't talk about it much, but my kids are amazingly funny and smart. They never fail to make me laugh. I totally lucked up in the family department. My friend department is none too shabby as well.

You guys rock.

I'm so excited to have [personal profile] miss_s_b back as a guest blogger on GeekaChicas!! This time around, she's here to tell us all about the Ninth Fantastic Films Weekend: A Review and a Plea. Sounds like a great time! Some day soon I'm going over there, and this gives me an event to aim for, eh?

I'm a bit exhausted. I made a ginormous, ugly cake for my eldest's birthday. He had a friend over for the night, and got his big, shiny new computer. Still, I know he misses his Georgia friends, and it could be July before we can head back that way. I need some extra money for travel, is what I need. We spent most of the disposable income from this payday on his nice new computer. And books. I bought too many books.

I may also be a bit blue because the hubby has to fly to Houston today, and won't be back until late. Also, he took the car because our truck has been acting funny and he wants to get it checked out before anyone drives it. So, we're stranded. I mean, we can walk to a bunch of places that are close by, and that's fine, but we're missing a field trip to a local farmer's market today. *shrug* I think I'd rather hit it Saturday with the hubby, anyway.

I have had a lot going on this weekend, what with my anniversary and my Beloved's birthday and all. (I totally scored the best pressie I've managed to get him in years -- he's so picky and usually has to pick out his own stuff.

But I got him. I think he suspected all along what it was, but still. I got him something that a) he wanted and b)he had not bought himself. It was a pocket watch with big magnifying lenses on either side that made it spherical, so it can sit on your desk like a paper weight. Pricey, but sooo worth it for the look on his face.

Over at GC today we have the next in Amalia the Savage's Letters series A Letter from Pollux, Another Not-Yet-Of Troy Story. I love having these fiction/articles of Amalia's to post, because it seems right in the spirit of NaNoWriMo. I hope to have the Halloween pictures up today or tomorrow as well.

Happy Birthday to my Wee Boy! My baby is TEN. His party isn't until the middle of next month, due to him wanting to have it in Atlanta. I can't blame him -- all his friends are still there. Poor woobie.

We're having a special dinner and some presies tonight, though. Plus, he's getting lots of well-wishers calling him.

I've re-written a story to submit to a market, and the submission deadline is the end of the month, so ... two days. [livejournal.com profile] hominysnark has done a good nit-picking on it, but I've tweaked it since then, and I suspect a fresh set of eyes would help.

It's a m/m fantasy genre piece, but nothing graphic. If any of you is willing to nit-pick it for me, I would be very grateful. I know it's short notice, but without deadlines, I never submit anything. *weak smile*

Well, well. I was going to keep it low key on my B-day, because... Well, it was the middle of the week and I'd already had a cook-out this past weekend and stuff. But it didn't really turn out that way.

I got up and made waffles from scratch. They were vastly superior to Bisquick waffles, and the boys ate them up in a most gratifying way. :)

I wanted to take them to the pool, but Big Boy wanted to wait until his friend called, so he could go with us. I spent some time filing and stuff, inching forward on the huge project of sorting and organizing our lives. Of course, the friend called while I was in the middle of it and could come over but needed a ride. I told him it would be a while before I could get him.

The pool was fun, but I realized after I had picked the boy up that I could not find my driver's license anywhere. (Still haven't found it.) That stressed me a tad because [livejournal.com profile] darlingviolenta was planning to take me to Provino's for dinner. They give you a free meal on your birthday, but you have to prove it's your birthday with a picture ID.

Turns out, a passport works just fine. ;) Anyway, the meal was lovely. I had so very many emails, birthday wishes and pretty pictures, plus, folks kept calling me, too. It all made me feel very loved.

Then I got online and saw a bunch more sweet wishes, and an incredible birthday fic by [livejournal.com profile] micehell called "Treasures of the Flesh Never Few" It's a lovely, pornful Torchwood fic - Jack/John/Ianto. Torchwood is probably the only sf/f fandom where the manwhore-ness of characters is actually part of the show. Let's hear it for the battle of the sexy boots!

It was really a great day.

Now, I have repeatedly bragged on how much I love and admire my home-girls -- how smart and funny and thoughtful you guys are, what talented an amazing people I've been fortunate to have in my life.

It's all true.

Some days, though, you surprise me. :) I've had so many sweet and thoughtful birthday wishes today... You guys just... ROCK!

Over at GeekaChicas, our dear Beatrice Blythe (known locally as [livejournal.com profile] narniadear ) has put up a special birthday post called Whack the piƱata and see all the man candy!

And people are posting birthday wishes and pretty pictures (mostly of man candy) in the comments!

*blush* What fun! I feel so loved, even though my Beloved is far away today. What a lovely, lovely thing to do. :)
