So, this one first grade teacher who teaches two of the kids I had as Reading Buddies evidently thinks I'm a miracle worker. I have had a really great year as far as seeing actual progress in my Buddies' skizills. The wee boy with the speech impediment read a new story cold with great fluency. It was so exciting! Any time a kid starts to enjoy reading, you know there is hope. No matter what else is going against them in their lives, there will always be stories and ideas there for them that they would not encounter otherwise. Yay.

The following is an excerpt from the end of a conversation with my Beloved, who is out of town today:
Beloved: I'll call you when I get out of here and head home. Stay out of trouble.
Me: (laugh) How could I possibly get into trouble around here?
Beloved: Never underestimate your talents, my love.
