The 22nd was the Roe vs. Wade anniversary, and it was suggested that we should share personal stories regarding reproductive choice. I've never had an abortion, and for most of my life I had difficulty imagining circumstances under which I would consider it. HOWEVER, I have always considered myself politically pro-choice, despite being fairly certain I would be morally unable to have an abortion myself, under most circumstances.

I'm older now, and I have kids who need me. I also have the same kidney disease that eventually claimed the lives of both my parents and two of my grandparents. If I were to become accidentally pregnant, my life and health would be at risk, and I would have to choose between an unborn child and letting the children I have grow up motherless. I am grateful not to have to face that choice, but if my Beloved and I DID have to face that choice, it shouldn't be anyone else's business. Especially the government's.

It would be great if all babies conceived could be born into stable, loving familes or given to people who could provide that for them. I wish with all my heart to see that world become a reality.

Legislation cannot bring us to that Utopia. Our only hope lies in individual reponsibility and freedom.
