mackillian's novel, Monster Rules ? About how the first chapter blew me away?
Well, she submitted it to the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Contest, and has just been informed she made the first cut. Her excerpt is up and may be read and reviewed here:

I think it's more than one chapter that is up, and it cuts off in a weird place, but it's still cool. Her style is spare but evocative. It's the story that has the power, not flowery imagery.
