My vehicle blew a hose on the trip, before we had even made it out of Louisiana. Seriously, the border with Mississippi is less than an hour away from New Orleans, and it broke down before I got there. Popped hose, lost water, overheated. BUT I pulled over right away so no major damage was done. We got a tow to a Pep Boys in Slidell, where they said they couldn't look at it until the next day.

However, they said this in front of one of their big shot customers, who insisted they take a look at it right away and try to help us because we were in such a tight spot. He even offered to pay the bill and tipped the mechanics for us.

I cried. What was that Blanche Dubois said about the kindness of strangers? *sniffle*

But that put us driving late at night, and I was so tired by then and not seeing straight that we stopped in Alabama for the night. My suitcase was buried, but I showered anyway and put on my dirty clothes again. It helped.

We arrived the next day and began unloading the truck. Ended up unloading all night in order to organize the storage unit for better access to our stuff. Took a two hour nap and delivered my poor kitty to my friend Lorraine, who had set up a special place for him and even set out a kitty drinking fountain. Once he settled in, he was apparently in kitty heaven. She texted me pictures. She is hopeful that Jack will get on with her kitty, Platinum, who has been lonesome since their other cat, Abraham, went outside and didn't come back. :(

Still sort of organizing our space here. Took teh boys to the health department for pre-school eye/hearing/dental exams as required by the state of Georgia, even though we just did it all in Louisiana last week. Different form. *sigh*

The boys are hanging out with friends today. Tomorrow we've been invited to join Lorraine at a picnic at the lake with another family. After that we're having pot roast with our most faithful helpers from the unloading ordeal. On Monday we take the Wee Boy for a meeting at his new school. Big Boy's meeting isn't until Thursday, so after all that rush, they won't be in school on the first day after all.

In other news, my friend Andrina had convinced me to join youwriteon.com and enter an opening chapters contest, so I I did. Your piece has to have 8 reviews to qualify for the contest. You earn reviews by reviewing other people's stuff. I've done six or seven so far, and gotten two reviews in return. (So far they are quite positive.) It's a spot of work, and I'm somewhat pressed for time at the moment, but I'm going to get 8 reviews by the end of the month if it kills me.

So, if anybody would like to read the first two chapters of my second draft, you can find them here:

http://www.youwriteon.com/books/samplechapters.aspx?bookguid=e9d5c639-1dd3-40b8-ac67-b77b426011de

The site makes you register, but it is free. If the direct link doesn't work, you can find it by a title search for "Form and Void." If you see fit to review it, I would appreciate it a lot. :)
