Unexpected family stuff has kept me hopping the last few days, and I've gotten behind on my due diligence. ;) So here goes:

There was the article from A Nonny Mouse on Monday, Furry Friends and Happy Holidays, which was a nice pet safety reminder for the holidays.

Then, a much-anticipated offering by Nightsky, Wholiday Gifts for Whovians. Is it wrong of me that the thing I'm really looking forward to this Christmas is the Doctor Who Special(s)? With John Simm as The Master being all crazy and stuff. Also, in some of the promo pics, he appears to be wearing a rather large belt around his neck. *g* I'm a gleeful pervert, my friends.

Now there is a very special and important post by Kitchen Jedi (aka [livejournal.com profile] brandedeclipse ) naming some charities which are especially important to us at GC, Give a Little Girl Power. Now, I've been told that GC, just by being there and doing what we do (speak our minds, squee and what have you) we're striking a blow for ... something. Maybe changing the mix on the internet a bit. I don't know.

What I DO know is that more girls seem to be growing up now without the crippling need to "keep sweet" that I knew as a youngster. (This was not exactly modeled for me, as my mother was as brash and outspoken as they come - I just rarely had her confidence.) That is a good thing, a healthy thing. But right now, in much of the world, women are little more than possessions, beaten on the whims of men who are, for some reason, terrified of women learning to read, or really, the idea that women might be as worthy of dignity as men.

It seems overwhelming at times -- so much suffering, so much injustice -- but we really CAN make a difference. In our communities and our world. If I didn't believe that, I'd probably just start blowing shite up.

Later today, I'll be posting a few more Christmas shopping types of posts, and some fun stuff, too.
