I started to write an article for GC on the whole Polanski thing, and now I'm just in a terribly foul mood.

Then I saw this on my friend's list, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] evildrem:

The War on Science Fiction (link deleted)

Apparently, females are getting their cooties on Science Fiction.(That old saw! have a picture of gnat playing "My Heart Bleeds for You" on the world's tiniest violin ---> * ) Now boys won't grow up to invent things anymore, because there might be gays and wimmin on the SyFy channel.

I think I sprained an eye muscle from the eye-rolling. Ow.

While the perceived 'dumbing down' of scifi TV is lamentable, that's one thing you can't blame on a whole gender. Idiots.

I read as far as the second sentence of the linked article, and then gave up. If you're going to assert blatant untruth as fact there's no point in even reading you, idiot writer.

Exactly! I think this is probably why the asshat writers who do this kind of piece periodically think that female scifi fans don't exist -- it's because we avoid idiots like him. I hope his little bubble gets ventillated soon.

I'd rather he stayed in it, to be honest, and didn't pollute the real world with his vileness.

True. The first comment I composed was along the lines of "I hope the air is getting really thin in that bubble of his" but then I thought maybe I shouldn't be so uncharitable. ;)

There's a real piece of work mouthing off in the comment thread, whining about how women always invade the boy's clubs. One lady said that the whole world is a boy's club, and he countered with a challenge to name one men-only area that women weren't clamouring to get into.

It was all I could do not to say, "Your bedroom."

(I refrained only because I do not want to engage, you know.)
