It seems that Darth Sweetums has been having some trouble with Facebook, too, if her article, Facebook: The Serial Stalker of the Internets is any indication.

I think I need to get out of Facebook, to be honest. Pull back some, at least. See, I got sucked into the games, and now I hate it. Plus, some guy with a name similar to someone I went to school with, who turned out not to be who I thought when I accepted his friend request, sent me a message just to tell me I'm pretty. Which is creepy and off-putting, for a compliment. I almost wrote back, "That picture is 20 years old. Now I weigh 400 lbs and have no teeth. I wash myself with a rag on a stick" but decided ignoring it was better than engaging.

Still, I would really like to know how to drop "friends" on Facebook. I know it can be done, I just haven't found the place to do it yet.

I drastically cut down my facebook friends list recently I now keep it only to people I want to do social things with, because it's good for setting up events.

I think that is exactly what I'm going to do. It can be a useful tool.

Click your Friends tab, then "All connections." Find the person you want to delete, and click the x next to their name. I think you can also choose to block people, which means that even if you post on someone else's wall, s/he won't be able to see it(or so I have been told).

Thanks so much! I wonder if they'd know they were blocked ...

It's stupid, but there's this person that I like in RL who's annoying as hell on FB. All he does is post constant updates on Mafia Wars, Farm SomethingOrOther, and a bunch of crap like that. It's very tiresome. I got on FB to keep up with distant friends, not be spammed with asinine games, people's "colors," etc. But I don't want to hurt his feeling by de-friending him. If I can just block the bullshit, that would be perfect.

In that case, every time a post pops up from him tha has to do with a game, you can tell Facebook to hide that game. There is a hide button, and when you click it, it gives you the choice to hide the person or the spammy game post. You'll have to do it once for every obnoxious game, but in a couple days you'll only see him when he posts stuff not connected to a game app.

Oh! I see it now. There's a button on the top right of the post that says "Hide," and it gives me the option to hide the person or hide the application. YAY! You rock.
