I realized that most of my reaction was just because of the drastic changes in our short term plans. The toy sort (at least of the toys we're getting rid of) needs to be done in order to sell the toys properly, without bits and pieces everywhere.

I've sorted the linen, and will finish the first phase of toy sorting today (keep/sell). Maybe more if we can manage it. Then I'll get rid of old board games that we either have several of or the boys have outgrown (Blue's Clues? OMG Were they ever that young?).

Old Halloween candy buckets and excess Easter baskets will get out there, too. Plus a bunch of stuff from storage.

It's doable. Exhausting to contemplate, but doable.

It's not a masterpiece if interior design, but it is clean and I know where everything is. Doing this to the rest of the house is my real goal. The YArd Sale is just a means to that end.

Big Boy turned in his video yesterday -- I hope the teacher likes it as much as I do.

Here's a link to the post I made over the weekend with the video embedded:

Congratulations on the big cleanout! The kitchen looks great. I've been doing similar stuff--not so much recently, but all through the summer (my ex-husband was something of a packrat, and he dumped his junk on me when he moved out). It's such a relief to live in an uncluttered house.

LOL! My Beloved is also a bit of a packrat, but the kitchen stuff... There was a lot of stuff there that I had kept out of a sense of obligation because it was a gift, or because I'd never gotten 'round to getting rid of it. Then I reached the 'four hammers' stage (where you have four hammers but you can't find a hammer when you need one) only in the kitchen it was three cans of baking powder. Oy!

But now I can see everything I have and everything I need is in easy reach. It's glorious. I hope to get teh rest of my house in that sort of shape soon.

Super-tidy! You don't have a free few hours do you? I have a kitchen that needs a going-over...

I KNOW!!! Who'd have thought it? I should have taken a before picture. See, I cleaned out the corner cabinet (and the otehrs well enough to move things around) so that I had room there for all our bread products and snack items. They used to be all over the counter in that corner. I have a dream of a house that clean and neat everywhere.

Wow, how did you take pictures of my kitchen? LOL. Actually, mine looks a LOT like yours down to the color of the cabinets. My sink is different, our microwave is on the counter and we have a tile backsplash but other than than, not much.

LOL! Cool. I was trying to get wood floors to match the 'Pickled wood' tone of the cabinets, and they don't do it anymore. I would love to have tile counter tops. A lady down the street did ceramic floor tile on her counter tops, and it looks great. I love my kitchen, though.

Actually, sorry. I have a tile backsplash but formica countertops. I'd love to have granite but that's not in the cards. I do have ceramic floors, though. I just thought it was funny that our cabinets matched and they are even arranged the same way. LOL
