asato_muraki: (Freak out)

Well, that was fun! No, really, it kind of was. In a "weirdness is interesting" sort of way.

My BP showed up high, but I was nervous, so maybe it's not really high. In any case, I have to take my blood pressure and pulse twice a day for two weeks, to be sure. I can do that.
(I really don't want it to be high, because that could mean he'll reduce the thyroid medication... and I really, REALLY don't want to be transformed back into a slug.)

EKG was normal. possible TMI medical stuff behind the cut )

They took blood again, and we'll go over everything when I go back in two weeks. He wants copies of my records from my OB/GYN including the mammogram. Says he wants to maintain an overall picture of my health.

Told him about teh blue hand thing which so troubled the hubby, and he said that sort of vaso stricture is nothing to worry about as long as it goes away in a few minutes. (Which is exactly what my BFF said, and I kept telling the hubby, but it just kind of freaked him out, and he was worried about it.)

BUT, when he found the first time happened when I cut myself on a can, he gave me a tetanus shot. *snorffle* Nothing like a pragmatic physician. ;)

He also said I need to lose 20 lbs. No surprise there, since I packed on 15 in the last half of last year. What did surprise me was that he recommended the South Beach Diet. I know nothing about it, but just kind of assumed it was one of those gimmick diets. (He also suggested Weight Watchers and The Zone, but said he liked South Beach the best because it represented a lifestyle change that would be healthy for the whole family.) Then, he suggested I start taking Alli -- which I had also assumed was just one of those gimmicky weight loss snake oils. But I guess I'll give it a go and see what happens.

Oh! The wee foreign girl who took my blood (veins weren't standing up, but I still barely felt it -- she was very skillful) was so pleasant that it made the process easier. I mentioned something about "my babies" and she asked me how old they were. When I said "Eleven and nine" she gasped.

"But you're so young!"

"I'm thirty-nine. I'll be forty this year."

She looked genuinely surprised, bless her heart. "You must have good genes. You look like a twenty-something!"

Thus, she shot to the top of my Favorite People list for the day. OOO-eee!!

We're heading out to see my family in Tennessee today, and I'll be out of the loop for a bit (no internet!), but I'll see you on the flip side.
